It's hard to believe that last night was the final red club for the Wednesday night girls.
Jenny brought her almost complete top from the last class. Jenny can't remember where she purchased the background fabric and it's going to be a tight cut for the borders. We decided to cut the borders a little narrower, to fit the fabric.

On Saturday I bumped into Michele at Avonleigh.
Michele had the 4th Red Club quilt with her and I just had to take a picture. Unfortunately the photo does not do it justice. I love the paisley print for the borders and the grey prints in the blocks.
A recent purchase at the local trash and treasure market. I ummed and aahed over it for a while trying to decide if I liked it or not. Mind you it was clutched in my hand the whole time in case anyone else was interested. It was sooo expensive at $5. What was there to think about?

It's been difficult (impossible) to stay on track with the new quilt, I knew it would. All the wedges are cut out, sitting on the table right under my nose so I cannot fail to see them. The plan was to sew them together over the weekend, but my head was full of 'I wonder what it will look like in red'.
I have no willpower! It doesn't take much to lure me from one thing to the next. Dare I tell you about the other two red quilts I started earlier this year certain they would be completed in 'next to no time'. They also sit in prominent display, a constant reminder 'I must finish that'. I refuse to put them in the cupboard which has been the fate of other uncompleted quilt tops. Those tops rarely even register on the list of things to do.
Now the 5th and final Red Club project is at the printers, perhaps there will be time to finish at least one. The inspiration for the final project is from my favourite book Childhood Treasures by Merikay Waldvogel. I think I could happily make every quilt in this book. The Schoolhouse (p87) was earmarked immediately, the fabrics bought, the pattern drafted and then nothing. The moment was lost, the fabrics swallowed up in the stash ages ago.
So the decision for the final project was easy!

This coming weekend, 14 & 15 August, the Jugiong Quilt and Craft Show is on. I'll be there on the Saturday with my samples and things to tempt. Would love to see you there.
A lovely bundle of fabric Kay and Sharon, from Avonleigh, gave me at the completion of the Christmas workshop a few weeks ago (doesn't time pass quickly).

Red Club was a real treat last Wednesday. Here are finished projects from the first two classes and works in progress.

The 3rd Red Club project - Capital T. There was a lot of talking and I have to say I was a little surprised at how productive they all were. At this rate they should have them finished for the next class.

It's interesting how you can glaze over some blocks and others compel you to make them immediately. Well I didn't make this block straight away but it was high on the list of things to try. Now this is what's so great about little quilts. You can try all sorts of blocks and layouts without a huge investment of time and materials. And they don't take up lots of space!
The third quilt for Red Club is based on the Capital T. Temperance and Double T are just two more names this block goes by.
The most difficult thing about this quilt, was resisting the tempation to keep going, adding more borders, blocks for a medallion. I guess it will go on the list of things to do 'one day'.
Here are some of the blocks from Saturday's girls. Else decided to use scraps for her corners and Belinda chose what's almost a toile for her background. Now I must confess I wasn't sure about the toile but can see now it was a perfect choice. You can learn so much from the fabrics others choose to use.
Can't wait to see the fabrics the Wednesday girls bring to class.

A few years ago, Bronwyn and I discovered hexagons, courtesy of Christine Book. Were we excited! Our shopping was quite blinkered, only thinking in terms of which fabrics were suitable for fussy cutting hexagons. Bronwyn kept going with them and I stopped.
The second Red Club project involves hexagons.

How fabulous does hers look! It's very very inspiring.
What's so nice about this quilt is the number of prints used. In years to come it will be a lovely record of the fabrics available around this time.
Belinda hasn't been able to stop making them either and plans to sew hers together. At the moment, she's just enjoying playing with them, who wouldn't!

It happens. The ideas and the desire are there to turn the lastest fabric purchase into a new quilt, pincushion etc but something else crops up; there's tea to cook, the dog needs a bath, rubbish bins to go out, Uni assignments to read (not mine), another project grabs my attention,then one day going through the stash I find myself remembering 'Oh yeah, I was going to make....' I am particular bad (or is it good) at this, but not this time.
The fabric I said I was going to do something has been transformed into the 4th Red Club project.
And since I was not content with just one
I don't know which I am more excited about, two new quilts (almost finished) or the fact I've used fabric for its intended purpose almost immediately. It leaves me wondering, why can't I do this all the time!

As you can see I remembered the camera for Saturday's Red Club class at Avonleigh. They are all quite different even if they are red and white!

There are so many different reds and backgrounds to choose from. How fortunate to have all these gorgeous choices.
And this is Belinda's. Not happy with the background for the stars, Belinda used another for the pinwheels. How good does it look! The problem - the diamond print was not lining up with the diamonds in the half square triangles in the border. We all know how one little thing can bother us to the point where it could be the difference between finishing and having another UFO. Sometimes the best quilts occur by accident.
The fussy cut hexagons the girls put together. I think they may all be a little hooked now. So much fun finding suitable prints, fussy cutting and then seeing how they come together. Reds again, yet all different.
