Progress at last

Progress at last on the little quilt I'm making.

It finally feels like I will meet the second birthday deadline.

 

 

It was such a relief to work out the layout for this quilt. It started as an idea based around a block made using the 3 inch Drunkard Path template and progressed to including circular applique blocks. I was struggling with it because I was making blocks I liked without knowing how to use them.

This all changed when I started stitching on the Meadow Star fabric. Working on a completely different project not focused on blocks, layout and with no time constraints just freed me up to look at the quilt differently.

I still have to cut out, piece and add a border of Double Four Patch blocks. These blocks are quicker to make than the Drunkard Path blocks and will, fingers crossed, look nicer.

Once the top is finished I will post another picture.

I have not been making notes and think it unlikely I will write a pattern for it in case you are wondering.

 

The Meadow Star Menagerie print by Ruby Star Society is such a fun piece of fabric to stitch and applique on.

You may notice my website looks a little different.

The template I used was updated.

I'm still getting used to the new look and am tempted to tinker with it, but you

can lose a day once you start to change colours, fonts and layouts!

And there are so many other jobs I need to do.......

 

Craft Alive Wagga

This time last week, I was in Wagga for Craft Alive.

I do enjoy attending the shows and meeting so many lovely people.

I always include Christmas, regardless of the time of year.

It's never too early to start making Christmas gifts, in fact the earlier the better, to avoid the December rush!

Christmas Birdie

Last week I started thinking about making Christmas gifts. Since I leave anything Christmas related until the last minute any gift needs to be quick.

And when I do need a quick project I usually head for the felt.

The shapes give instant blocks of colour and are easily whip stitched in place. This step can even be bypassed by attaching pieces with a decorative stitch or stitches. The lid on the box is couched in place with cross stitch,the heart with a single cross stitch, the holly leaves are back stitched and chunky colonial knots secure the berries.

The birdie's tail feathers have been jazzed up with long straight stitches, colonial knots and running stitch.

The plan is to make more of this little decoration. (Note I said plan!) For a personal touch I may stitch a name or initials, in the box.

Daisy Key Ring

The Daisy Key Ring is a cute little project you can drop in and make at my Pop up shop this Saturday.

 

You won't have to bring anything.

The kits are already prepped including needles and I'll have applique glue and scissors on hand.

I loved doing the Make & Takes at AQC and miss the interaction with you all.

There was the added challenge of designing something cute that could be started and finished in fifty minutes.

And that's why I'm excited about the Daisy Key Ring - it's a perfect Make & Take project.

So this Saturday why not combine a little stitching with your morning coffee!

 

There are two colourways to choose from - Grey and Blue.

So much fun setting up shop at Flourish Creative Studio.

I only had an hour, which included moving the samples and stock from the car to the shop.

 

 

 

I was very pleased with how it looked given I had no time to umm and ah over where to hang this or that sample or how to arrange the baskets of fabrics, kits, felt and other bits and pieces.

 

It was such a great day, I went home and started on a new quilt.

 

 

Two blocks made, or so I thought, until I spotted a problem with the half square triangles in one corner. Oops!

The reverse sewing will be a weekend job.

 

New Garden Blooms Kit

My Pop up Shop is open Saturday and I've been restocking the kits.

The fabrics I used in the Garden Blooms Kit are sold out and I've been on the lookout for substitute fabrics that would be just as lovely.

I thought the grey La Vie Boheme Linen would be ideal but at the time didn't have a background fabric for the applique.

 

 

The grey check is perfect and the felt colors work too!
