Sweet Treats

There was an ulterior motive to this week’s project; I felt like chocolate! If I made the bag from the Sweet Treats pattern, there was a perfectly good reason to buy some! So far I've managed not to sample them, but the smell when I opened the bag.......I can feel the will power wavering.

 

You will have to trust me when I say the chocolates are in the bag!

no peeking

The week started with a rush of ideas and big plans to do lots of sewing. That is until I stepped outside to smell the roses and discovered the lush greenery I'd been admiring was in fact weeds! The focus immediately shifted to the garden. Still lots to do, but it's a start.

Torn between gardening and sewing I opted for something simple and quick to make for this weeks countdown project.

 The pattern is called No Peeking (no surprises there). The pattern includes instructions for the pouch, drawstring bag & stocking.

do you ever

Do you ever prep something and then find it's days, weeks and sometimes months before you get back to it. When the Bumble Berries fabrics arrived I immediately cut out the Dressy Hangers and started stitching the gift pillow from For You; they'd be a quick and lovely addition to my gift stash.

Then the focus shifted to doing all the things that needed to be done for the Armidale workshop and no more progress was made. I told myself there would be time for some stitching on the trip, so into the bag it went and there it stayed. (If I'm honest I took a book and read instead.)

Now I'm on a roll, again, and the collars are on the hangers and the heart has been stitched.

 

 

The heart is filled with lavender and I think they look rather lovely together.

 

 

I hope to finish the other two hangers sometime this weekend, but not tomorrow.

some sewing & stitching

I've been in a very happy place these past two weeks, finding time to catch up with some sewing & stitching.

I finally made a decision about the fabrics and layout for a baby quilt.

 

It will go to the quilters as soon as I finish the quilt top in weekend plans. Hopefully this weekend, with the emphasis on hope!

 

I had a lovely time stitching A Stitcher's Friend.

 

 

We all have our favourite pieces of fabric and ribbon and these are mine. So pleased to have them made into a thread roll. Now I can enjoy them every time I stitch.

Springtime

 You'd think I staged it but I didn't. It just happened and only occurred to me today how apt for the fourth project in the Happiness is.... club, to be named Springtime.  Birds are singing, bulbs are blooming and the weeds are flourishing a sure sign spring is just around the corner.

new releases

I'm not sure where to start. There's a lot to blog about, Happiness is.... club, the Christmas Joy workshop and the new patterns released this week.

This year I've done things differently and instead of designing all Christmas style projects for the Christmas workshops, chose to make one to use all year round (everyday).

 

Little Birdie

 

 When I have an idea the tricky thing can be deciding how to make it - will it be stitched or appliqued and if it's appliqued will I use fabric or felt.

 

As you can see I chose to do both!

 

And I didn't stop there, making a quick version of the bag.

This bag is shorter than the appliqued/stitched zipper bag. It can be made in a couple of hours. To date everyone I've shown has been very excited and thrilled it is so easy....... 

Looks great in pretty fabrics too!

Holiday Fun

 

A mat to pop on the table at Christmas time. It's small - 9 inches.

 

Gillian finished hers at the Christmas Joy workshop last weekend.

Happiness is .....

Can you believe I almost forgot to make this week's decoration? My focus has been on next year's club - Happiness is..... I have to have three of the projects made before Quilt Market next week. One's done, the second almost and the third is still floating around in my head.

Last night I wasn't really up for any Christmas stitching but I'm determined not to fail. I picked something that didn't need too much thought and could be done in relative short time; the Tree Decoration from All Things Christmas.

It's a nice size to tie to presents and can be easily personalised.

Sit n Sew stitching

One of the nice things about Sit n Sew Tuesdays is I get to stitch during the day; something that doesn't happen all that often as daytime hours are usually spent doing the dull and boring stuff.

I finally finished the Country Garden pouch I started almost two weeks ago. Yes it's taken me that long to sew the fastener on and stitch the opening closed; a fifteen minute job, if that.

I will confess I'm addicted to the new Hollyhock Needle Case. It was quick and easy to prep before heading out this morning.

I have a stack of gorgeous coloured felts and wish I could make it in all of them.

this weeks christmas challenge

There must have been spare minutes this week, as I managed not one but three felt decorations.

Honestly I couldn't decide which one to make so pulled out all stops and made them all.

These decorations will be familiar, they're from the pattern All Things Nice. I wanted to save time and try something different and turned them into decorations by adding twisted cord and blanket stitching the edges together; they are needle cases in the pattern. You could try the same thing with the pudding and gift.

Hollyhock Needle Case

The Hollyhock Needle Case is one of the projects the girls at the Vintage Retreat received in their goodies bag.

I love working with felt; it's soft, easily tweaked into shape and projects can often be finished without the use of a sewing machine.  The needle case can easily be made in a day. Completing it at a workshop though does depend on how much time is spent stitching versus socialising! 

 

 

Of course I had to make a second one to check the pattern and used my other  favourite colours. Please don't ask me to choose!

 

The morning was been spent making up kits in the two colour ways - Blue Spruce and Pea Soup.
