Sit n Sew stitching

One of the nice things about Sit n Sew Tuesdays is I get to stitch during the day; something that doesn't happen all that often as daytime hours are usually spent doing the dull and boring stuff.

I finally finished the Country Garden pouch I started almost two weeks ago. Yes it's taken me that long to sew the fastener on and stitch the opening closed; a fifteen minute job, if that.

I will confess I'm addicted to the new Hollyhock Needle Case. It was quick and easy to prep before heading out this morning.

I have a stack of gorgeous coloured felts and wish I could make it in all of them.

Did you know.........

Did you know it's only 13 weeks until Christmas! If you were planning to make gifts, I guess now is the time to start. Some of you will have started, some may be finished and others will be like me - leaving it until the last minute.

But not this year!

This year I'm enlisting your help, indirectly!

My plan is to make a Christmas decoration each week and post a picture every Friday. To avoid failure, they will be quick and easy things to make. Decorations that can started and finished in a night or two, without sewing past midnight. 

Email me if I don't post. You will be doing me a favour.

The Stitched Treasures heart I made last year using the red diamond print looked so lovely I decided to try it in green. The stitched linen-like ribbon is perfect for the hanger and saved time.

I love the look of them stitched on red too.

It's been twelve months since I made the last one and I'd forgotten just how quick and easy they are to make.

Just when I thought I might be over red these petite prints and wovens arrived on my doorstep. My first thought when I opened the box was 'what can I make'. Priced at $20 per metre please email me if you need to make something with them too!

Make Merry

 The Snowman came first, then the Birdie followed by the Deer.

Now there is Make Merry - Bunny and Make Merry - Santa.

The collection will look fabulous hanging from the tree.

They will make a lovely gift too.

pretty stocking fillers

The plan was to make a couple of little bags to pop some hand cream in.

They took very little time and looked so pretty with the hand cream.

 

So there I was with the gifts made until the thought,

'Why not make coat hanger covers to match',

popped into my head.

 

It should have been easy sewing, but my machine didn't want to play! No matter how long I set the stitch length it did its own thing. Have you ever tried gathering a frill on a close to normal stitch length?  Very frustrating! At one point I thought of scrapping the idea but was determined to finish them. I'm glad I did as my sister's-in-law were surprised and delighted to receive these unexpected gifts.

thinking about Christmas

Early in the year, Corowa Quilters asked me to do a Christmas workshop. Back then November was ages away and now it's here, tomorrow in fact. I'm teaching a couple of favourite designs, Christmas Trimmings and Stitched Treasures.

It's been awhile since I made one of the hearts from Stitched Treasures. Originally I used a fine stripe and have been on the lookout for a substitute ever since. It didn't occur to me when this print from the French General first arrived that it would work, because I was only thinking stripe. One of those light bulb moments happened and how lovely does it look with just a touch of green. The other nice surprise was how quick it was to make. Admittedly I prepared it one night and then stitched it the next, but it felt like it was finished in no time at all.

 

Since I always leave making Christmas gifts to the last minute, this could be just the thing......

This red tone on tone would look nice used on the back of the red hearts. I like it with both the red & pale red French General fabric.
