Skellywags Stitchathon

Last Saturday Jan and Shelley organised a Stitchathon at The Joy Bus 10am - Midnight.

Now it's not often I have a day to stitch for myself and didn't want to waste the opportunity. I decided it was time to replace my old heat bag with a new one. It didn't take too long to choose the fabrics.  The plan was to have the hexagons pieced and sewn down, finish it at home and snuggle up with it that night. I was sidetracked by lovely company, yummy food and the need to make something else with these fabrics.

 

 

My favourite thing right now is the rosette with the birdie in the middle. Yes I've made two exactly the same - one for the heat bag and another for this drawstring bag.

 

 

 Now the big decision is what to pop in the bag because it has to be used and enjoyed!

Christmas in July at Avonleigh - no. 5

Like any fun event, the weekend flew by all too fast.

It started with a display in the shop.

 

Felt tags for the goodies bags.

Then the difficult part - deciding what to make.

This year they could choose from Festive Stitches - 9 stitcheries made into a mini wall quilt, Joy to All - a felt appliqued free standing card, Holly - a cloth doll, warm and snug in her felt dress and Pudding Anyone? - a felt pincushion.

The girls know the projects in advance and most times have already decided what  to make. They nearly always change their minds once once they see the samples close up. I like it when they swap and change and try them all, especially if it involves learning a new technique.

 

The girls chatted about the things they'd finished (and still had to finish), from previous workshops. We worked out this was the fifth Christmas in July workshop at Avonleigh, the first was in 2010.

Thank you to the girls for such an enjoyable weekend. And special thanks to Kay and Sharon, Avonleigh Country Quilting  for organising another wonderful weekend.

Christmas in July - Avonleigh

The final project for Christmas in July at Avonleigh this weekend is finished and the patterns folded! At the start of the week I didn't see myself having all this done by Thursday!

 

Now I can put the finishing touches on a few things, take a deep breath and get ready for a fabulous fun filled weekend.

These new fabrics arrived yesterday from the Cold Spell range. I can't help but think how appropriate the name is as there have been some very frosty mornings this winter.

They're gorgeous fabrics and priced at $23 metre. Please email me if you'd like to purchase some.

cushion club July class

Thank you to Jan for stepping in and managing the stand at Craft Alive for me on Saturday while I taught cushion club at Avonleigh. Most of the girls were away and this made teaching the class a breeze!

All that was left to do was stitch down the ric rac and sew the front and back together.

 

The girls achieved all this in just three hours!

craft alive wodonga

Craft Alive Wodonga was on last weekend.  I do like to blog about these events before they happen and was frustrated when I discovered I had no internet service last Wednesday. I'm happy to say it's working again now and only off for four days and not a week.

Living in a regional centre means all the shows I do involve travel. Usually there is accommodation to book and other stuff to organise before a trip. This time the car was packed the morning of setup and I left home just before 10.00 am. So civilised!

In the lead up, I'd been busy working on the projects for the Christmas workshop at Avonleigh and the Christmas Stitch-in and gave myself a nasty start when I realised the show was only days away and not weeks.  I had an image of myself waking up on the first day of the show and realising I wasn't setup!

 

 

It was a fabulous weekend and lovely to catch up with the many girls who have done classes with me over the past 12 years.
