yo-yo's & stitching

Towards the end of last year I went a little yo-yo crazy and made lots. I did have a plan but moved onto something else and the yo-yos sat in the bottom of a basket under the next project! They weren't entirely forgotten and will be perfect in the new project I dreamt up.

So with yo-yos in abundance I needed something else to work on at Friday sewing. This stitchery has been drawn for ages and was waiting for the right moment.

I love stitching on hanky linen with the Aurifil Thread.

Now to get them finished, write the instructions and photograph them for the book which is planned for release at the AQC in April.

It's finished and looks so much nicer now those ugly rows of basting have been removed.

Remember the little red and white quilt I was working on here, I arranged and then rearranged the half square triangles, decided to cut a few squares, introduced another red fabric and settled on this.

If you're wondering about the rows of stitching you can see and are thinking they look a bit ordinary, you can relax. It's the way I baste small quilts. They will be removed once I finish hand quilting it.

sampler class

The sampler classes started this week and it's a first for me. I'll be teaching the same project all year and setting homework!

In previous years the girls have worked on a stand alone project, which was often completed, or was very close too, in the 3 hour class. This year it will be a case of going home with completed blocks.

 As much as I love red it's exciting to see the quilt will be made in other colour combinations. Some are opting for the same background fabric and others will be using a variety.

The homework is optional but highly recommended if the quilt is to be finished this year!

Marg Low's Sampler Club 2013

things I'm working on

Remember those gorgeous new buttons from Theodora Cleave, there still in full view and from time to time, I fold and rearrange fabrics and think about what to make with them. Sometimes a design can take what seems like ages to come to fruition and others happen almost instantly.

Like this little folder with another Theodora Cleave button.

The button and fabric are the perfect match. No pattern for this as yet but it's on its way.

In the meantime, there is still a quilt to finish and the new book to finalise. A decision needs to be made very soon about the projects going into it. Of course I want to keep addding more and the latest thought is for a small red & white quilt.

Which may or may not look like this when it's finished.

Oh Santa

Every Christmas I tell myself next year I will be more organised. I will make presents throughout the year and avoid last minute Christmas Eve stitching.

My favourite decorations are little ones that can be stitched and made in a night or two. 

That's why I'm so excited about this new Christmas pattern, Oh Santa.
