Merry Christmas

Today I did something very unusual for me. I went shopping for a couple of last minute gifts. I know I couldn't believe it either but by mid morning I knew I wasn't going to get what I wanted to make made. They'll still receive a little hand made item but it won't be the main gift.

I'm still deciding if I will make more of these tags.

However, I feel like make something different!  Yes, I do know the clock is ticking, and a decision needs to be made quickly, but it wouldn't be Christmas if I wasn't dreaming up a new design at the last minute with the final stitches worked around midnight!

I hope your presents are made, wrapped and under the tree.

Christmas is next week.......

I realised Christmas is next week and the red & white quilt I make each year is not going to be finished in time.

Progress has been made and as long as I can have it sewn together to the border stage I'll be happy. I should be able to manage that, fingers crossed, and all the other things that have to be done by Christmas day.

Can anyone explain, why there is so much to do and why it has to be done by then? Today in the supermarket, I had to fight the urge to place grocery items I never purchase in the shopping trolley and other items on the off chance they could be needed!

Something I've been wanting to do for a long time is to try out the wool thread from Aurifil. Now I won't embarrass myself by telling you how long I have had this box of gorgeous coloured threads but it can be measured in Christmases.

As you can see some are still unopened but I'm hoping to rectify this over the holiday break. I decided I had to start using them and not overthink the project.

To get the ball rolling I used them to stitch around one of Barb's decorations. I know you've seen the Simple Pleasure decorations before but they are my stand-by gift.  The thread was lovely to stitch with and now I'm busy planning new felt projects to use it on. I wonder if there will be time before Christmas Day.

At last, some Christmas decorations have made it out of the cupboard onto the cupboard.

 

the right pink fabric

Finding the right pink fabric to bind this quilt was more difficult than expected. The choice has been narrowed down to one of these two.

Now I did think I would come straight home, make a decision, make the binding, sew it on and have it ready to hand-sew down tonight.

Instead my heart said play with these!

the trunk show

 I'm sure the girls who attended went away very inspired. I know I oohed and aahed all over Barb's things.

Choosing which samples to pack for a trunkshow is like packing clothes for a holiday. I'm never sure what to take. Should I stick to a theme - Christmas things only, but what about my red & white quilts and other samples in these colours? Will this include the pink quilts?  Perhaps if I shut my eyes and toss the first things that come to hand into the suitcase then it can be a surprise for everyone, including me! 

Barb and I will be doing the trunkshow together at Avonleigh tomorrow night. It will be a lot of fun and I can't wait to see the things Barb's been working on.

But before then I need to make a decision. Here are some of the samples which may or may not find their way into the suitcase
