has this happened to you...

A while ago I was refolding my red and white basket lattice quilt and was a bit taken aback with the border fabric. You see, I didn't remember the fabric I'd chosen as being so salmon. I remembered it as murky and a bit dull.

I didn't give it another thought until I was rummaging through my box of red fabrics and found a piece.

The quilt has been folded and refolded at the end of the bed and then hung over a rail. It is not sun damage, as the colour change is even all around. It has never been stored in a timber cupboard or box.  The scrap piece has been stored at the bottom of clear plastic tub. The other reds appear unaffected. The quilt was made about 7-8 years ago and the fabric was used in another scrap quilt, six years ago, and yes it's undergone the same colour change too.

I'm now left wondering what colour will my border be in another 5 years!

Jugiong weekend

It rained for most of the trip to Jugiong last Friday, the closer I got to my destination the heavier it fell. Much of the trip was spent considering how I could balance an umbrella and carry boxes from the car to the hall! As it turned out, the rain stopped just before I arrived and held off while the car was unloaded. How lucky was that!

And what a nice surprise to discover Helen (Patches of Heaven, Temora) and Christine Book were on the stand next to me.

 

Jugiong Quilt & Craft Exhibition

Some last minute cutting & folding for the Jugiong Quilt & Craft Exhibition on this weekend, 25 & 26 August at the Jugiong Memorial Hall.

l'uccello purchases

The day began with such promise - gorgeous sunshine, a hint of spring and soon after the clouds moved in turning it dull and grey.

Lucky I have my purchases from l'uccello to brighten the day.

Do you have a list of shops you must visit? l'uccello has been on mine for sometime  but whenever I've been in Melbourne the timings been wrong and I've gone home promising myself next time! I had all Friday afternoon to myself to locate the store (not difficult at all) and take my time wandering around the shop.

I wasn't sure what to look at first. The ribbons, buttons, fabrics, wool, felts and displays all demanded my immediate attention.

I love the simplicity of these boxes and the promise of what's inside.

All these gorgeous things to look at.

And so nice to see my Pear Tree in pink.

I didn't come away empty handed. I bought some very yummy things that I'll share with you next time.

some stitching too

It was too dull today to take pics of the red & white blocks I've made this week, but there's a nice pile happening. I've been super organised selecting blocks and fabrics during the day and then cutting and sewing them at night.

There's been time for a little stitching over the last few weeks. I do love stitching with cream on red. I think it always looks stunning and has the added bonus  -  I don't need to think about which colour will go where!

  And there was a birthday present for Sue-Anne that needed making.

The Country Garden thread pouch. This year I decided to make all the Friday Girls the same thing. It's a lovely quick project you can start and finish it in a night.

This is Helen's. They were stitched using the Aurifil Cotton Mako 12 thread. It's a beautiful thread to use and you don't have to separate strands! I do like things that make life simpler.

some sewing at last

Only four more blocks to go and I will be back on track with the Friday Girls Sampler Quilt. Jan chooses the blocks and is not afraid of setting us (Helen, Michelle & me) a challenge.

This ones called The Disk and I was a bit put off when I realised the pieces where cut with 45 deg angles and involved Y-piecing. I like things to be easy and achievable and this took me outside my comfort zone. 

As soon as it was finished I wanted to try it in red, of course!

Not as perfect as the first, but that doesn't matter. I'm really pleased I had a go and won't be put off making more blocks employing these techniques. And yes they will be red!

Buttons & Blooms

Buttons & Blooms is the fourth project in the From Me to You club. The Wednesday night girls couldn't wait to get started and it set the mood for the evening. I knew if they chose to make the button purse they'd finish it in the 3 hour class but didn't anticipate them completing it, starting a second and going home early!

It's inspiring seeing the different fabric & button combinations to the ones I've used.

I think just about everyone has brought in their finished bags from the last class Joyful.

I shouldn't have favourites but the birdie bag is one of mine.
