As soon as I saw the fabric I knew if I went home with only one piece it had to be that piece. But how much to buy? Why is it the fabrics I just buy a little bit of are the ones I always seem to use first and need more of, while I have other large never cut into pieces! So, would I buy a Fat 1/8 or something bigger? What made the decision more difficult was I didn't have a clue what I'd be making. In the end I decided on 50cm.
Now I love the buzz that comes with a piece of fabric you have to use as soon as you arrive home. There's no thought of putting it aside for tomorrow, fabrics have to be chosen now, cut and pieced together.
And this is how I felt about the black piece I bought at The Material Girls the other week. Driving home I was busy running through ideas for a little quilt. Something scrappy, but which block and what layout? That's when I remembered I'd wanted to make a strippy flying geese quilt for ages. This fabric would be perfect. I had to force myself to unpack the car and put the kettle on before heading for the fabrics.
Last year I worked predominately with red fabrics and somehow I'd forgotten how much I enjoy these bright antiques together.
