a busy week

It's been a busy and exciting week. Monday I went to Canberra and saw Masterpieces from Paris. Yes it was a little crowded but seeing Monet's Waterlilies made it all worthwhile. One of my favourite gardening books is based on the Impressionists and this features in it. Other must sees where the the National Portrait Gallery, the coverlet in the East Asian Art section - the embroidery was exquisite, I had to be dragged away and of course Jackson Pollocks, Blue poles simply because I remember the controversy surrounding its purchase all those years ago.

On Tuesday this was waiting for me at the post office. A parcel from The Quilted Crow Girls, Leonie and Deidre. How did they know my favourite colour is green? 

 The pretty fabrics I will be working with for the Autumn Gathering. It's hard to believe but it's only four weeks away.  I have just a wee bit to do between now and then. I bet you can guess what I'll be doing this weekend!

Christmas Club - 2nd project (May)

Finally!  There I was Monday afternoon around 4 o'clock feeling confident the samples would be finished for the second Christmas Club project and four days (96 hours) later I'm finished. Apart from seeing the movie, Bran Nue Dae (very enjoyable with great performances) there were NO long lunches and NO books started or finished. I just couldn't decide on one small design element. If it hadn't been for the Friday Girls making my mind up for me I think I might still be umming and arrhing. So, thank you!

Thank you for all the lovely guesses concerning the item in the last post. Congratulations to Robyn for guessing correctly. Yes it is my new book mark. I'll be using it just as soon as I find time to read a new book. This won't be any time soon since I have to start and complete projects for Christmas Club and The Quilted Crow's Autumn Gathering.  Once I start a book I have to finish it, I can't just read a couple of pages a day, I need to know how it ends now! And if it's a trilogy, then all three books have to be read!  So I am deliberately avoiding the bookstores.

Red Club started last week and oops I forgot to take the camera but the girls have been asked (told) to bring their quilts next time.

I did remember today - for the Simple Pleasures class.

  Don't they look great.  I do love it when the projects are completed or very close to in class.

Barb has gorgeous new designs on the way, perfect for using on this pattern.

a little something for me

 A little something I've made for myself using Barb's new Hollyhock button. It was oh so quick to do and I can see myself making more for gifts.

I'm going to let you guess its purpose!

This is the only bit of sewing I've done in what seems like ages. I know this is not true but finalising the first Christmas Club and second Red Club patterns is a priority. Almost finished, then I can play again....

Aunt Ivy's Sewing Basket

 Yesterday was the first class of the year. I have to admit it was a bit difficult getting back into the swing of things not having taught for 8 weeks. I'm sure you all know that feeling of returning to work after a break.

The girls were making Aunt Ivy's Sewing Basket and worked on a bit of everything and were well on the way to having the set complete. So interesting to see the widely different choices of fabric.

 Rhonda was pleasantly surprised when she discovered the perfectly fussy cut flower on the base of her basket. One of those nice things that happens by accident and couldn't be repeated no matter how hard you tried. Looks great doesn't it!
