My love of anything to do with fabrics was established at an early age. Watching and learning from Mum as she made our clothes to sewing my own as a teenager. I dreamed of becoming a fashion designer and became an accountant instead. Family and work left little time for sewing but the purchase of an overlocker and stretch knit classes allowed me to create some lovely, and not so lovely clothes, for my two young daughters and myself. In the early 90’s I read an article about Kaye Pyke, was captivated by her combination of wool and ribbon embroidery on calico, and my love for textiles was rekindled. Designing and establishing a new garden shifted my focus until I was shown how to make a cloth doll and I have been hooked ever since. Cloth dolls led onto Stitcheries, making samples for my local patchwork shop and teaching there. It wasn’t long before I was creating my own designs, publishing my own patterns and my business Marg Low Designs was established.
